With the start of the New Year comes the annual scheduling of races on our calendars. The 2010 Riding Mountain Triathlon will be held on SATURDAY AUGUST 14. We are presently working on updating this website and should have it refreshed by the end of January 2010. Registration will be ready to go live with Events on Line April 1.

If you have any questions please contact us at RMTri@mts.net or through the Contact Page. Also look for our first newsletter being sent mid January. If you are not on our mailing list send us a note with your e-mail and we’ll add it.

So circle the date on your calendar as this year is RMTri’s 25th Anniversary, because The Crowstons and The Clear Lake Crew hate to celebrate alone.

Back in 1986 Laurie Penton and a few friends dreamed of showcasing the new sport of Triathlon in the best venue around, Riding Mountain National Park. After a decade of innovative nurturing spent building up the race Laurie retired. Flash forward to last year when Deb and I had the privilege of taking over this event for the first time. As we look forward to the 25th Anniversary in a few years, our passion for this event found expression in a mission of going “Back to the Future”. Going back to its roots means going back to what made this race so successful and unique in the first place — the park.

Riding Mountain National Park was made for a Triathlon/Duathlon. It is without question among the most scenic tri courses on the prairies. Starting with the bracing swim in the deep spring-fed lake, on to the rolling bike course through boreal forest and ending with a rewarding run along the lake shore path one is challenged yet rewarded throughout.

Our main goal is to exceed everyone’s expectations. If there is poetry to be found in a triathlon it is surely found in the stories it helps each athlete create. We strive to make sure that each athlete feels important whether he or she finishes first or last, providing an opportunity to fulfill their own goals or dreams. We want even more for our racers though, and that is to fall in love with the park.

We therefore recommend you come early or stay late and relax for a few days. Better yet plan your family vacation to take in our extensive trail system, fabulous boating and fishing, unique shopping or to simply rest on the beach and recuperate after your race. This is a perfect year to experience the park as it is celebrating its 75th Anniversary and many great events have been planned.

There are a number of reasons that the RMTri has achieved the success it has. First and foremost is the support of the volunteer base… the “Clear Lake Crew”. This Crew is made up of seasonal residents that spend their summers at the many cottages in and around the Wasagaming town site. Their love for this park motivates them to make sure all participants have the best experience possible.

Second only to our volunteers are the sponsors. Last year Kelleher Ford came on as the premier sponsor and we are looking forward to their continued support. Also, Johnson’s Cabins and Stream ‘N Wood stepped forward to take on lead sponsor roles. This year, we welcome A & L - get active, who are joining as the sponsors of the “Clear Lake Crew”.

As well we have the full support of the Park administration and the generous involvement of the local business community.

We have several new and exciting things planned for this year, keep checking back for future announcements. We will continue to do our best to be well organized so you can relax and play out on the course. And while I can not promise great weather one thing I can safely guarantee is that the food will be just as good if not better than last years. So mark you calendar we look forward to seeing you in August. Until then train safe, have fun and relish every moment of a too short race season.
